Health & Safety
Upon arrival you will be greeted by Alison and asked to sign in. Signing in prior to class is a health and safety requirement and is necessary prior to every Nia class.
It is a condition of the Nia Technique Inc. Licensing Agreement that all Certified Nia teachers hold a valid First Aid certificate. Alison Whitton holds a current First Aid qualification that expires in July 2021.
To support healthy movement choices in class Alison will draw upon many practical techniques such as verbalising and demonstrating varying levels of intensity (1, 2, 3) and building movement sequences from the base up. The suggestion is for all who are new to Nia, those supporting an injury or a health condition, those who are unfit or the older Nia student, to move at intensity level 1; least intense / movement closest to the core of the body / slower repetitions. These choices will best support your body in self-healing and integration of new-to-you movement sequences. Choose to increase speed, range of motion and intensity levels as you become more familiar with Nia and with Your Body's Way.
Utimately, your health and safety in class rests with you. It may be best to focus on the base moves (eg. steps, stances, kicks) before adding the core and upper extremities. Pay attention to your body's sensations and make movement choices based upon pleasure and ease.
