Seasonal Rhythm

The four seasons are a natural measure of time and offer boundaries for how long a routine is shared before we shift to learning ‧ moving ‧ energising a new Nia routine.

It is advised that licensed Nia teachers learn and share 3-4 new routines each year.  Alison achieves this with a seasonal, organic, form/freedom approach with the intention of offering 4 new Nia routines each year (one per term).
See below for 2021 Term / Season dates:

Term 1 / Summer   (8 February - 18 April), 10 weeks
Term 2 / Autumn    (3 May - 11 July), 10 weeks
Term 3 / Winter     (26 July - 3 October),  10 weeks
Term 4 / Spring      (18 October - 19 December), 9 weeks
(There are generally no Nia classes in January)

A new Nia routine is shared near the beginning of each season and we learn ‧ move ‧ energise this routine for 4-6 weeks. This is the form part of the season and offers the opportunity to get intimate with the music and the movement of one routine. The purpose of this is to allow time to personalise and deepen your experience and increase your confidence with unique movement sequences, all leading toward a more embodied experience.

The following 4-6 weeks we shift to the freedom part of the season and move to different routines and Nia playlists regularly. This time offers the opportunity to be in beginners mind, experiencing new-to-you music, movement sequences and sensations. For students who have been doing Nia for a while, it offers the opportunity to revisit routines we have played with in the past, building upon previous learning and integrating new movement skill.

Visit the Events page to see when new Nia routines will be released (calendar), as well as when Nia workshops are scheduled.
